Two baseball players were injured when a bus carrying their Tomball-based team flipped in a crash on U.S. 290 in Waller late Wednesday.

The Spartans Post Grad Academy team had just wrapped up a game against players from Ranger College in Ranger, Texas, a little under 300 miles from Tomball. As they headed back to their facility, the bus crashed and flipped on its side. Several players had to be rescued from the wreckage.

In total, 12 players were hospitalized, including two who were airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital via LifeFlight with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Waller County Sheriff's Office. There were a total of 22 people on the bus, including the driver. It is unclear if the driver was injured.

According to footage from OnScene.TV, it appears the driver of the bus crashed into a barrier along the highway, causing the bus to flip on its side.

A review of federal safety records shows a handful of violations in recent years for the Houston-based bus company, ABBA Corporate Charter. In 2019, the company was fined $4,700 for failing to drug test a prospective driver. Then in March 2022, an ABBA driver was pulled over and found to be operating a bus without the proper driver's license, according to federal records.

Spartans Post Grad Academy is a post-high school baseball program for prospects, according to its website. Coaches train players in hopes they'll move on to more prestigious leagues. The team trains out of the Premier Baseball of Texas complex in the 20200 block of Cypress Rosehill Road.
